Snow honeymoon is OVER.

OK, after that blissful snow post, I'm done with the white stuff. Bring me back my safe, ice-free roads so I can get the heck OUT OF MY HOUSE! What's funny is, I'm actually quite a home-body, but as my mother pointed out, as soon as you tell me I shouldn't leave the house, that's all I want to do. Plus, I have so MUCH to do--out of the house and in the house, which I can't do, because I can't drive safely (and don't want to risk it with the kids in the car) and the little people inside the house are forbiding me to do anything other than indulge their every needy whim. Yesterday was really bad because I thought, silly me, that I would be productive on this snow-bound day. As just mentioned, the children had other plans, as they traded off the "needy, sleepless, cranky and inexplicably fussy" baton back and forth to each other all day, and I ended up being exceptionally frustrated that I wasn't getting anything done. So, today: change of plans! DON'T EXPECT TO GET ANYTHING DONE. I mean at ALL. Not even a Christmas card addressed. The attitude change has worked wonders for me, and here I am at 12:30 in my PJ's and I'm working on a blog post! Pleasant surprise!

Here's some pictures from 2 nights ago when we did handprints on canvas for our Countdown activity. There are no pics of Carson doing his prints, because it took both adults to monitor the situation so we didn't have red handprints all over the kitchen.

"You guys are crazy, but WHATEVER." (Look at those eyebrows! ha!)

Also, funny story for last night. Our activity was for Carson and Mommy to wrap Daddy's gift. I figured we'd wrap some PJ's that we always exchange on Christmas Eve, so I if Carson spilled the beans it wouldn't be a big deal. He (Carson) was excited and while I was washing dishes at the sink, he started asking Trent who was at the table: "Dad! What do you want for Christmas?!" Trent says, "Oh, I don't know, maybe some shoes or some clothes..." Carson, without missing a beat, says--slightly confused--"But we already got you some new shoes. The other day." (I'm at the sink rolling my eyes, slighty exasperated, but not able to stifle a smile.) "Yeah, we just got some at...what store was that, Mom? Oh yeah. Nike. We already got you some new shoes at Nike." Trent just started cracking up. So, lesson learned. Don't take a 3 year old Christmas shopping with you. And if you do, don't tell him who the gifts are for. He WILL remember. Trent, try to act surprised on Christmas morning!

Thanks for breaking up my snow day with your post. It's so beautiful, but I had to get out of the house today. Mike took me to Target this afternoon when it warmed up a bit and it was pathetic how excited I was to go. You're right..it's the idea that I can't go that bugs me.

The Nike shoes story is awesome...I love that he not only spilled the beans about the shoes, but what kinds and where...what a little helper. :) And Sydney's look with the red paint on her hand...priceless.

Jen,
You could not have blogged my feelings more accurately. Snow is fun for about oh, 5 minutes, especially when you're not prepared with groceries, snow clothes, and you've just come home from the hospital with a newborn...I'm starting to feel like Grizzly Adams snowed in for the winter. Thank goodness Lee is around or I'd be talking to the stuffed animals.

And too funny about the shoes. Yeah, I stopped Christmas shopping with Elisha last year...3 yrs seems to be the magic number on that one. I love me some online ordering, that's for sure! Except when the package gets delivered and your 3 yr. old. opens it...

I'm sorry you are experiencing cabin fever, but at least you are entertaining us with your storytelling! Bummer about the shoes!

Ha! Ha! I'm glad I'm not the only one with a loosed lipped toddler. :) On another note, I'm loving Sydney's expression! Her look says, you want me to do what?

Oh Carson. Just think of all these stories you'll be able to tell him when he's older. The handprint canvas is very cute. How clever. You have truly impressed me with your family activity calendar. Oh and Sydney's expression is priceless =).

Ah, yes: cabin fever does crazy things to the already-stressed mama. Yesterday while it was snowing, Judah wanted to go play outside. Jason, home from work (which normally is a good thing) started to tell him 'no' when I butted in: "Your boots and coat are in the closet. Have fun!" :)

Carson is great: he and Judah would be excellent buds. While wandering Freddies, Judah piped up, "Mama! We bought that for you yesterday! With Dad! For Christmas!" A lady passing tried not to giggle too loudly. :D

i love all your craft and fun ideas before christmas. it must help to have the teacher blood running thick in your veins. my craft ideas are so much more boring!! i learned not to bring my kids shopping with the same scenario. at least it's good carson does not keep any secrets from his parents! :)

I would be going crazy too! We had 2 days were it rained so bad that we stayed at home.
I love the Treat Christmas gift story, so funny!
What a good idea with the hand prints. Now what are you going to do with it? Put it up all year, or just leave it up at Christmas time? We may do that next year.
